It is a sign of an impoverished church culture when what is heard most clearly by outsiders are clamors of division and competition. In years past, as a younger pastor, I was usually first in line to offer biting criticism of other local churches and warn churchgoers to steer clear of them. Admittedly, my censures of other churches were primarily due to an insecure heart, not because I cared so greatly for the people of God. In more recent times, I’ve found comfort in knowing there are so many churches in our city standing firm in the faith and championing Jesus as the most prized treasure in the universe. I love these churches and the pastors who serve them.
While the church I serve, Hope City Church, is hosting two Eve gatherings (5PM/8PM), we will not be having church on Sunday, December 25th. However, I know many who still want to attend a gathering to worship and celebrate Emmanuel on his day. It seemed helpful and appropriate to curate a short list of churches in our city who will be open and welcoming Christmas day refugees into the warmth of their church family. While I can heartily recommend more to you, I will limit my commendations to six churches who will be open on Christmas day. These churches are gifts to our city and will love you well on Christmas morning.
